A junk journal is part scrapbook, part art project, and part personal diary. It’s a space where you can write, glue, paint, and collect whatever feels like you.
There’s no right or wrong way to fill one. It’s about using what you have, enjoying the process, and creating something that tells your story in a real and personal way.

If you’ve ever wondered what to put inside your junk journal, here are some simple ideas to help you get started.
Paper
Paper is the foundation of every junk journal. You can use just about anything you can write or glue on. Try mixing colors, patterns, and textures to keep your pages interesting.
Scrapbook or patterned paper.
Book pages and sheet music.
Envelopes and tags.
Receipts, tickets, and maps.
Stationery or wrapping paper.
Handmade or tea-dyed paper.
Fabric and Ribbons
Fabric adds softness and texture. It makes your pages feel cozy and handmade. Try layering it under photos or using it for tabs and trims.
Lace trim and bits of fabric.
Ribbons, twine, or bows.
Old doilies or handkerchiefs.
Fabric flowers or embroidery pieces.
Tulle or netting for layers.

Hardware and Fasteners
A few metal touches give your journal character and function. They help hold things together and add a little vintage shine.
Brads and eyelets.
Paper clips and safety pins.
Buttons and snaps.
Binder rings or jump rings.
Charms, keys, or small chains.
Ephemera and Embellishments
Ephemera brings your pages to life. These are the decorative bits that make every page feel personal.
Printable cutouts and stickers.
Postage stamps and seals.
Journaling cards and tags.
Washi tape and vellum overlays.
Pressed flowers or leaves.
Die cuts and punched shapes.
Photos and Artwork
Photos and artwork make your journal feel more like a storybook. They remind you of moments, places, and people you love.
Vintage photographs.
Polaroids or photo strips.
Your own drawings or sketches.
Your finished coloring pages.
Printed postcards or art copies.
Small collages or image cutouts.
Writing and Notes
Your words make your journal meaningful. You don’t have to write a lot. Just a few thoughts or quotes can capture your mood.
Daily reflections or short entries.
Favorite quotes and affirmations.
Handwritten letters or poems.
Lists, prompts, or ideas.
Notes about special memories.

Pockets and Interactive Pieces
Interactive pieces make your journal playful and fun. They give you places to hide little notes, tags, or keepsakes.
Pockets and tuck spots.
Flip-ups and fold-outs.
Envelopes with inserts.
Belly bands and pull tabs.
Hidden journaling spots.
Extras and Keepsakes
This is where your journal becomes a true treasure chest. Add little pieces from your life that make you smile.
Dried flowers or leaves.
Feathers or charms.
Ticket stubs or coins.
Jewelry pieces or trinkets.
Bits of nature or travel souvenirs.

Supply List
I made this page just so I could save the little sticker from my first Pumpkin Spice latte of the season! To add interest, I added extra ephemera, ink and ribbons:
Extra ephemera from the Pumpkin Spice folio in my shop.
Distress Ink in Antique Linen.
Ink Dabber from Ranger.
My favorite Moleskine sketch book.
Glue stick (any kind is fine, but my favorite is Scotch brand.)
